Teachers Unite Joins Right to the City Alliance!
We are thrilled to join Mothers on the Move,Community Voices Heard, CAAAV, FUREE,FIERCE and many others as as a core, base-building member of the Right to the City Alliance!
At the heart of the Right to the City (RTTC) movement is the belief that the people who live in the neighborhoods of the city have a right to shape how the city works and its policies. We have a right to live in the city and to have power over the decisions that are made here.
RTTC is a national alliance of membership-based organizations and allies organizing to build a united response to gentrification and displacement in our cities. Its goal is to build a national urban movement for housing, education, health, racial justice and democracy. We are building our power through strengthening local organizing; cross-regional collaboration; developing a national platform; and supporting community reclamation in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast.
Teachers Unite is the only organization in the NYC grouping of RTTC that brings a membership with an in-depth understanding of public education in our city today. We invite our members to get involved in helping shape the public educaiton component of the RTTC platform, build strategy with coalition members and organize toward a human rights vision of New York.
